Richard J. Anderson, 67, of Erie died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at his residence.
He was born in Erie, March 17, 1946, son of the late Michael J. Sr. and Margaret Laird Anderson. Richard was graduate of the University of Buffalo and received his Masters in Education. He taught school for many years in Buffalo, N.Y. Richard moved back to Erie and became President of Mickey Anderson, Inc., and later he was employed with Stairways and Bethesda Lutheran Home.
Richard was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, a life member of Polish Falcons Nest 123, where he received the Gold Legion of Honor and served as a National Director for the Falcons for 8 years. He also was a member of the Polish National Alliance, and the Lawrence Park Golf Club and was named Man of the Year for the Polish Business Men's Association. Also he was a soccer booster for the Erie Admirals and McDowell High School, and was a season ticket holder for the Erie Otters Hockey. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians and Pittsburgh Penguins fan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard M. Anderson; and his brother, Michael Anderson, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Terry O'Neil Anderson; son, Gregg Anderson; and daughters, Terry Richelle, Polly and Karrie Anderson, all of Erie. Also survived by many other family members.
Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Ash St. on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and may attend a service there Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Metropolitan Erie or St. Stanislaus Church.
